Sac Carrington LVN to RN 2019

Updated:   Published

Hello. I am in the process of applying to Carrington's LVN to RN advanced placement program. It's been a long process of getting my prereqs and GE's together, but I'm hoping I get accepted to the next class (August) ! Are there any current students or graduates from the lvn to RN program who can give me tips on how to ensure I get accepted?

I would also like to know if-- in the first month of the program, is it just once or twice a week for class and then gradually M-F? I'm trying to figure out scheduling for my job.

@RMC465 - Commute wise it's the same but Sac i don't have to pay toll. Call Unitek and ask what's your chances I think this is the last week for them calling students who got in.

Good luck to you at Carrington hope you get in. I will let you know what's my decision this coming Thursday.

Yatz2019- Nice! Actually same for me. I live in the Benicia so we might be from around the same area. I wouldn't have to pay toll either for Carrington. And thanks! Same to you.

@Yatz2019 - I got accepted yesterday! I hope you do as well.

@rmc465 - I got accepted at Unitek's lvn to bsn program and starting already on July 15! Congratulations to us!

I had to accept Unitek when they called because I was afraid that if i turn them down and Carrington dont pick me then i will lose both. I'm happy for both of us!!!!! We got this!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( I heard both school uses same ATI test) email me anytime if you need help.

@yatz2019 That's awesome! Congratulations, you go straight to your BSN ?

also, same to you! feel free to email me as well. best of luck to you!

Hello,

I came across this thread while I was searching for "Sacramento Carrington LVN to RN". First of all, CONGRATULATIONS to you both for getting into Unitek. Life is crazy when you come across the same people who are in the same boat as you. I'm currently finishing up my last 8 weeks at Unitek for the Associates Degree in Vocational Nursing, however I'm contemplating on even attending or applying to their LVN to BSN program because of #1 the cost, I think its around $100K? And #2 the schedule. I currently work and I don't mind switching to part time, however when I was exchanging emails with the admissions person, I was informed that the schedule will be Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm for 2 years. Is this true?

This is the reason why I'm considering Carrington, because it's closer to me AND although it's an ADN program (I'm also on the same side of the bridge as you guys are on), it's 8 months and I can always finish up with my BSN degree online with Western Governors University at the fraction of the cost.

But anyway, I'd really appreciate it if you are able to share with me what the proposed schedule is like for Unitek. It would be nice to get the BSN done, but the schedule and the cost is what's making me second guess. Carrington is definitely closer to me, whereas Unitek is almost 1.5 hours away WITHOUT traffic. =(

P.S. Any study tips for the TEAS? ? Thank you!

@JChristy - firs regarding teas check out quizlet, It helped me a lot when i was reviewing for my teas than the ATI book.

The Unitek lvn to bsn schedule varies, it changes every 8 weeks. The first 8 weeks is Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 9 to 5. Then for the next one year is theory every Thursday and Friday then clinical is Tuesday and Wednesday or Saturday and Sunday. I don't know the schedule yet for the last one year.

Make sure you study for your TEAS!

@JChristy Thanks! I didn't get into Unitek, only @Yatz2019 did. Although I did my prerequisites through Unitek, and had some credits from my community college that were transferable. I got accepted to the bridge program for Carrington in Sacramento. I was thinking the same when the time comes to do my BSN, that I would do it online. I would say to apply to both. Carrington's application process took longer for me than it did for Unitek's but, I got accepted to Carrington.

I'm not sure what Unitek's schedule is like but I think Carrington's schedule is similar (probably will be M-F with a mix of class and clinical.

For the ATI TEAS, I studied and purchased the ATI practice tests online and bought the practice book. I also studied a month before I scheduled my test because I needed a refresher on all the topics. I've taken it twice because my first time, I didn't study and barely got a 62% (passing score). I wanted to take it again to get a better score.

Also, if you're interested in Carrington, I believe they will take a high GPA over a high TEAS score. I didn't score high enough for my recent TEAS test but I have a 3.9 GPA and I have heard they favor higher GPA's. (I could be wrong but this is from my own experience).

Last time I applied to Unitek, they based their application off points; your TEAS score, GPA, whether you have a degree, and other factors determine your score. Higher score= higher on their list. Hope that helps!

@rmc465 I got accepted at Carrington too! but I already processed everything at Unitek classes starts July 15 already ? I know i can still cancel but i feel like Universe gave me Unitek first so i took it. Anyway you are right Carrington will take the highest GPA unlike Unitek the percentage of TEAS score is higher like 34% of your total points comes from TEAS score.

@jchristy Unitek or Carrington just make sure to pass your TEAS to be safe of course.

@Yatz2019 you've made a great choice. I know Unitek does clinicals at some great sites/hospitals. I'm not sure where the sites would be for Carrington. I HOPE we can get a clinical at a hospital. Great job on getting accepted to both schools!

@JChristy Also, another thing I did besides the ATI practice book and practice tests, I went on youtube and would search for people who got high scores on their TEAS for some tips. I also would go over topics from khan academy on youtube if I didn't have my practice book on me.
