Rush University Accelerated BSN?

Nursing Students General Students

Hi, I'm Andie. I'm new here :-)

I've applied to Rush U's ABSN program, and so far they've barely told me anything.

Does anyone out there know about their program, how selective they are in terms of grades and experience, etc?

Thanks!

They're very selective....if you don't have their GPA, they toss your application down the toilet without looking at your essay, etc...I didn't get teh best feeling when I was there, and I had hopes of doing their ABSN. You interview once with an admissions counselor who basically tells you whether or not she's going to pass on your application to a committee, then you interview with the committee. I didn't end up getting accepted there- which I was kind of bummed about, but I'm glad, in retrospect, that I didn't do the accelerated. Getting an awesome clinical experience at an externship now! I know a lot of Rush docs and nurses, and am observing a brain surgery there in a couple of weeks, bc I know one of the brain surgeons on staff there.... I'd work there, and contemplate getting my MSN there....but they are EXTREMELY competitive.

Good luck!

I called them to get info a while back and they were VERY rude to me. I can only imagine what they would be like to deal with as a student there if that's the way they treat people asking for information.

Yeah, every time I speak to the Admissions Office I feel like I'm getting hte brush-off. I hope I'll get an interview so I can go out there and meet the actual professors. But a flight from CA to Chicago isn't cheap!

:chuckle An accelerated program at Rush University - that just strikes my funny bone really hard - for second degree bachelor candidates in a real hurry - Rush. :chuckle

May I ask what the min GPA is? I've looked on their website, and they only had the 2.75 for the traditional BSN. Rush is on my list, though only if I retake chemistry.

Thanks.

Yep- only name off the top of my head that comes to mind is Kristi Peterson... she's extremely rude!

I THINK, GPA wise (and this was a year or so ago) that the science had to be a 3.0, and everything else had to be a 2.75? It may have changed since then, as when I applied it was in '03....

Good luck!

Though I did speak to someone very rude on the phone I did manage to get some info out of the person. They increased the program this year to 80 students and they said they recieve around 300 applicants

Cool!! The Admissions Counselor told me I should hear whether or not I'll get an interview sometime this week. Any idea when the interviews will be?

Thanks for the info.

So, I finally heard from Rush and the interview's on August 12th! I'm really excited.

Hmm, I got into Rush's ABSN and have only had wonderful experiences with their admissions and financial aid depts. In fact, the HEAD of nursing admissions personally called me only TWO DAYS after I submitted my online application, asking me to interview. She said because I was in California, she wanted to tell me as soon as possible to give me time to buy a plane ticket.

Before that, she would always reply to my emails within a day or so.

When I called their financial aid office, I got a human being right away, and he answered my question perfectly and immediately.

I've dealt with other nursing schools (esp. in California), and the customer service was consistently both slow and awful. It's one reason I decided to leave California for nursing school.

Rush has treated me excellently from start to finish!

Also, someone above said "You interview once with an admissions counselor who basically tells you whether or not she's going to pass on your application to a committee, then you interview with the committee." That was not true for me. I just interviewed there with two nursing professors directly. No admissions counselor.
