Ruptured Lungs

How common is it for lungs to "pop" in surgery? A friend of mine had both of her lungs rupture during surgery, and i wanted to know what could cause this.

Although I realize that the original poster isn't asking for medical advice, this thread is an example of "what ifs" gone bad. In this particular case, I would be supportive of my friend but not ask questions. We don't know the details and would be way off-base offering the "what ifs" and "well it could be this or that."
