Hey.

Im a 23 year old single mum. I deferred my nursing course for the last year as I became pregnant during this time and had trouble with pregnancy related illness. I plan to return to third year of my nursing shortly and I have missed it a great deal!!! however going back again has me running scared senseless as my brain seems to have slowly turned to mush since I've left. Wondering as well how i will be able to balance my work, study and quality time with my son..... PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I think once you start back, you'll get into the groove of things. Good luck!

Duffy! Settle down... breathe deep...you've done 2 years... you are not a mush brain!!!

You are a mom... you have been learning to prioritize... you will be able to do this. I have noticed that many times moms turn out to be the best students. They are very motivated and do what they need to do!

It is a lot of work, but it can be done. Connect with other student moms and see how they do it... maybe you could get together for study/play groups.

I would just like to say that you are young, and your son will only be a baby for awhile. I'd put his needs first and then work around him. If you find that you must defer school longer, it will still be there... but he will grow fast.

What about the rest of you younger moms... how do you do it? How do you switch from baby talk to nurseze?

Duffy needs our help!

Thanks a million for your words of encouragement. Greatly appreciated. Still a bit scared though, I guess thats half the fun!!!:roll

Amen to what Sandy said. Moms are often the most talented in the classroom (and clinical floor) when it comes to organizing, prioritizing, and multi-tasking. You don't even realize you are doing it!! I am a mommy of four ranging from 10 years to 2 years old. It's life...I just do it. But childless classmates are stumped at how I can have four conversations at once (all requiring a different intellectual level), make dinner, do dishes, and study for an exam -- all at once.

Back to your brain -- it is not mush!! Organization in studying is half the battle and I'm sure you have this talent.

I'm in my final semester and it warms my heart and I know I'm doing the right thing when one of my children scrapes a knee or bumps their head and another one yells, "Get mom! She's a nurse!" They even bring the neighbor kids to the front door when someone has suffered a "boo boo" in their play. :)

Thanks pjmommy. Good to hear some positive words of encouragement!!! Good luck with you

Duf,

I am a Mom too, my Son is 10 and my daughter is 4. I do not know what I am going to do with my daughter if I should be in the program spring 2004. God will work it out. I am proud of my choice and I am going to work really hard to do good. I am just waiting on my letter from Florida States University. I am so anxious! Oh my goodness! I hope to be in for the Spring.

Ann.
