I know how you feel. I think it usually ends in April here in GA.

I know!!! it's started for us too and I think I caught it (again!! can you get RSV more than once?) Anyway I'm beginning to dread the long winter nights of suctioning and breathing tx and o2... arrrgggghhh...

I'm just happy they're starting this rotavirus vaccine though... just think, in a few years that will be a rarity... oh can't wait...

In our big hospital, the RSV positive kids are cohorted together in a big room.

On the East coast I think it's October to March. My daughter was a preemie and was born in July , went home in September, and they started her shots in late September.

I am forever suprised at the number of Moms of newborns that were not told of RSV if their babies were born at the start of the RSV season, preemie or not.

My daughter was in direct contact with TWO RSV babies (unknowingly), only a couple of days before both babies were admitted to the hospital. One was in for a few days, the other was in NICU for 4 weeks. When both parents called to warn me they started to explain to me what RSV was, and they were shocked to learn that I was already well-versed...not because I was smart because that's all I heard about the entire time she was in the hospital.

This lead to alot of anger on the mother's part because they felt they should have been told it was a risk. In both cases, my daughter did not fall ill, and I swear by the synergis (sp), and I breastfed her too.

It's just a horrible tragedy that all parents of newborns in the RSV season are not warned of this possibly deadly disease.

I caught it twice last December and was sick for the entire month:angryfire

Not a good thing to have twice in one month, especially when you are a travel nurse. Thought I had strep at one point..thankfully it wasn't.
