RPNs GOING TO STATES AS LPNs

Published

I moved to Texas with my husband (americain.) I worked in Ontario as an RPN. I have permanent resident status already and have gone through CGFNS and applied to the Texas Board of Nursing. I was denied a license to work as an LPN in this state.

However, I found out that I can work at a federal hospital in town that is hiring LPNs like crazy if I am licensed in ANY U.S. state.

So, my question is...does anyone know of ANY U.S. state that will allow a Canadian RPN to be licensed as an americain LPN? I know I will have to submit the CGFNS report to that states board and probably take the NCLEX, but once I get a license in any state I can apply for the federal job. Any help or a point in the right direction is appreciated!

Moved to the International forum as per the red bannerWhat was the reason for denial as you may find this is the same for all states? Only other suggestion is contact other state BON and see what they say. Generally you may not find many LPNs that have made the move as LPNS doesn't meet immigration/work visa requirements

Agree with identifying the reason why you weren't issued a license and finding out how to remediate in order to qualify. Chances are, most other states will have similar requirements. Were you denied to sit for the NCLEX-PN in Texas?

It is true that federal agencies such as Veterans Affairs Hospitals accept nursing licenses from all 50 states regardless of where the hospital is located in but they also only hire citizens of the US.
