RPN To RN options ?

Published

Hello everyone. I would like to know what I can do from here regarding my situation. I finished my nursing RPN program with a GPA of 3.1. I went to centennial college. I was doing really well, quite naturally. I had one C in a math course and I failed 1 theory course, but repeated it and got an 80%. However, I would really like to further my career. I really wish to be an RN very badly but I know my options are slim. What can I do from here? Please no judgements or harsh comments. I am fully capable of becoming an RN. However, I was going through a rough time during the time I was taking the 2nd theory course. I have burning passion for nursing and serving the community.

Hello,

I am not sure if you have heard of the Nipissing University blended delivery program. Here is the link: http://www.nipissingu.ca/academics/faculties/applied-professional/school-of-nursing/Documents/RPN-BScN_Blended-AppInfo.pdf

You do have to be employed as an RPN at one of their partnered locations or your current employer can become partners (they do not partner with doctors offices).

I hope everything works out for you :)

I know that there are a few bridging programs available in Canada if you are an rpn wanting to become an rn. From what I know, they are a bit competitive so I would suggest contacting the individual schools to get their requirements to figure out where you want to apply. This will help to determine if you need to upgrade or not.

all the best with your nursing goals!

Most RPN to BScN programs have an 85-90% admission average at the minimum. I would return and re-do any courses that you didn't do well in to boost your average. Many programs also require you to write an essay regarding your goals and aspirations once you become an RN which is a deciding factor in your admission.
