RPN or RN?

I know a lot of threads are this topic but the ones I read through didn't answer my question.

I'd like to get into hospice/palliative care. Which program would give me the greatest chance of doing that? Is one preferred over the other in Ontario? Does one have more opportunities in hospice care then the other?

Thank you!

L.

Both levels of nurses work Palliative Care in province. Research the job market in your area and see what the opportunities are.

I am an RPN working in palliative at a hospital. There are more RPNs then RNs therefore more RPN jobs. However this is just one place. I know of hospices that only hire RNs. Also there is community end of life care. Lots of need for for RPNs there. I have a friend who does that and loves it more then palliative in hopspital or working in a hospice. Also there oncology topically has palliative as well, and these units tend to have more RNs. Oh, and I should forget ltc, I worked at one with a wonderful end of life program. In ltc RPNs are more hands on and RNs doing more of the paper work and managment So really there are many options. I would look into the scope, duties, education, pay and job openings for the RPN and RN and pick from that view, worry about getting your dream job after you graduate. There are so many options in, I mentioned a bunch in end of life care alone. You never know what you'll end up loving by th time you graduate and be surprised where you are when you retire. I don't know many nurses who spend thire whole lives in one place. Good luck. Keep us updated.

Thank you very much for your post, it is quite helpful! (:
