RPN = RN/LVN/LPN in Texas?

World Registration

Published

Hi there everyone!

I'm currently a Registered Practical Nurse in Ottawa Ontario and I was looking at relocating to Houston Texas and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with that type of situation :)

Would I be eligible to work as a LVN/ LPN or a Associates Degree RN, I have emailed the Texas board of Nursing and am awaiting a response but I sure would LOVE some advice/ experience stories from you amazing nurses :)

Thank you so much for your help!

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

LVN won't meet work visa or NAFTA requirements. So assuming you have work rights....

You'd follow the application process for LVN by examination as an IEN and have your credentials assessed by CGFNS

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Moved to nurse registration

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Plus TX won't determine equivalency until your credentials are evaluated by CGFNS or equivalent.

See page 17 of the application:
