Hello everyone I hope your day is good.
I am currently a student in the RPN to RN program and will be done in a year. I finishes my RPN and went straight into the bridging RPN to RN program fulltime. During my education time I have not work as a nurse in acute setting and decide to focus on school so not much experiences. Only experience I have is working in a clinic for a year since it work with my school schedule. My goal is to work in a hospital.
I am not too sure if I hurt my chances for future job because of the odd pathway I chose. Within the area I live to be eligible for new grad program it is 12 month after receiving the license which is the route I am planning to choose.
Any help or suggestions would be great.

Hi. A nursing work in a clinic is still a relevant experience. I did the same program as you but parttime! I was working at a retirement home to med-surg while doing my last year of the program.
-After my 4th year 1st clinical at a transplant clinic, I submitted my resume as RPN to the same hospital but in their inpatient unit. I did struggle a bit but eventually got accustomed to hospital setting. (They offered me an RN position after I was registered but I left the country instead).
-My 4th year 2nd clinical at a day surgery, my preceptor encouraged me to apply as casual RN after I graduate but I wasn't interested.
So really, your last clinicals would have the greatest likelihood of being employed after you graduate. But I believe that RNs are in demand nowadays.
Hello hypnotizer90,
Thank you for sharing your experience. Since I am at the full time program it quite difficult to work and do school at the same time. I am planning to start working after I graduate. I will try my best to leave a good impression for my last clinical placement hopefully it will be in a hospital.
I was wondering did you know anyone who did RPN to RN program and got a job through the new grad program?

Hi. I didn't know anyone because most of my colleagues were working as RPN and just absorbed by their workplace into their new RN role. Most hospitals don't offer new grad programs so you could be hired as new RN w previous RPN experience.
Looking at the market right now, as long as you have an RN title, you are in demand. In terms of hospital experience, you'll get as as you go. You just need to be hired first.
