RPN at Mohawk or Conestoga (plus bridging question)

Published

Hi

Is there anyone here who is taking or has taken the Practical Nurse program at either Mohawk or Conestoga? If so, how do you find the teaching methods? Why did you choose the college you did? Do you have any tips for a newcomer?

I will be starting one of the above in January. I'm trying to keep my options open for a RN. Would the Mohawk course, ending in April, let me start the RN in September? Do both colleges accept the RPN program from the other for the sake of the bridging RN?

TIA

Leigh

Hi I am also going to start bridging program with Mohawk in January 2013. This is also new for me I am need some information about this course as well. Are you in Hamilton or another city? I have move there from BC. My admission for this program has been approved. and Now, I am waiting for registration starting mid Dec.

Hopefully, if you start with Mohawk will get chance to meet there..........

Hi Samra, I'm not doing the bridging program, i'll be doing the RPN accelerated course with Mohawk hopefully if all goes well i'll move onto a bridging program but will have to wait and see (i got offer both there an Conestoga but chose Mohawk because of the 1.5 years instead of 2 that it will take) . The reason that I started this thread was too see if anyone had done a similar course and how the timing went for the transition to bridging to BSN. I'm currently living in Cambridge and will stay here and work out something with commuting into Hamilton. Congratulations on your offer of a place and best of luck with the course.

I'm currently in the RPN program at Mohawk. I just started, so I'm no expert....but it is problem-based learning, which is the same at McMaster. Essentially for every class you have manuals that you must complete before class...you watch videos and read the text to answer the questions...and class is to clarify anything people didnt understand. Lots of group work. So far its an insane amount of homework...but that will come with any nursing program. Good luck!

Hi, fast forward a few years.. did you ever get an answer for your question about RPN students at Mohawk being able to bridge straight away the following September? My daughter is in the same boat now.. would love to know.
