Good morning everyone!
I am currently located in Ontario, Canada. I am pursuing my RPN (finishing my schooling June '12).
In the present time, I am looking to see what kind of career an RPN can have in the cosmetic surgery world?
What type of role would the RPN be responsible for and what type of activities would I be able to partake in? (ie. pre,op, OR, PACU, etc.). Would I be eligible to complete minimal sedation procedures? (ie. Botox etc.)
Also, does anyone have an idea of what the avg pay scale would be? I know many of these positions are salary+commission, but I have no idea what the starting salary would be or avg. commission.
There is a course offered at Centennial college for RN/RPN interested in cosmetic procedures; is this course beneficial?

I feel like a fish out of water when trying to decide which is the best route! Not many people in my current geographical location are interested in or know anything about this industry.
Thanks All!

I am interested in what the answer to your question is as well. It seems to me this may be one of those "grey areas", as some procedures done in clinic may be delegated by the physician, as nurses may not be able to preform certain procedures independently (ex. laser tattoo removal). I know RPNs can scrub in the OR, if there is an RN circulating. Not sure about the pre/post-op areas. I guess it depends on how "invasive" the surgical procedure is, and how stable the patient is. Also unsure, about the Botox injections. This would be a good question to ask the College of Nurses, and let us know.
