What event are they haveing with so many sick kids?

You do not mention the age of your children - they are likely immune if out of the toddler years.

I would go depending on the importance of the event, but question if their children will be up for having guests? I am more concerned for her children than yours.

I don't know that they will have the evening if they are outwardly sick, but I don't know how long this can be passed... it will be four days from now.

Her kids are two, four (the one who got out of the hospital last evening) and seven.

My kids are five and seven. I would have thought her older ones would have been immune. When the four year old was in the hospital, they said it is often passed via object, toys, that sort of thing. But I do not know how long that would last.

There will also be my other brother's kids: seven, and then older, fifteen and sixteen. And I believe some friends of theirs who have kids, probably younger, in the age range of three or four to seven.

It is the first night of Passover. I keep telling my mom to take back the evening... (I do not think she would come to my house under the same circumstances... but you know families and these sorts of tensions... )

My son, who is four, apparently just had it and I got it. Neither of my other two children did, but my Aunt did who was helping us out when my son was in the hospital for three days. Honestly, I would "think" it would be safe for you to go, but I am only speaking from my experience, and we still aren't sure that it was rotavirus because of all of Trey's previous problems.

There is no immunity to rotavirus. I got it only once while working on the Pedi floor for 6-7 years, and hope to never get it again. Like many viruses, it is contagious and hangs on to fomites (door knobs, phone, etc) and, of course, hands. What I have found to be effective is frequent handwashing and keep your fingers out of your mouth and nose so you do not innoculate yourself. I would not kiss the infected kids either. Other than that, you might as well go to the event as everybody there has the potential to be infected with one thing or another.

I guess I secretly wanted to know if you guys, nurses, would go... knowing what you know about this virus, given that you were planning a trip out of town! I just did not know enough about it.
