As the moderator for this forum ... I am interested to know where everyone is from, their background, branch of service (or VA VISN) and what they like the best about Military or VA Nursing .... this forum generally has some really good traffic, and I would like to pull all of us together and get to know one another a little better.
Hi, Im brand new 1st lieutenant Army Reserves Nurse Corps, 66H8A. Paperwork took almost a year to complete!! OBC probably will be Sept, that gives me 3 months to work physical training. Any one who has already been to OBC, fill me in! please. Bobbi
Welcome lieutenant to the Army Nurse Corps [ANC] & the allnurses.com!
I was Reserve Commission from 9/25/03 to 3/30/06 [66E & 66H]. On 3/31/06, I took oath of office for Regular Commissiion in the Army Nurse Corps [66H & 8A soon]. I reported to Ft Lewis on 4/3/06 for 3 yr committment to Madigan Army Medical Center [MAMC]. Upon completion of 16 week critical care course at MAMC I'll be an 8A. I have critical care & telemetry experience but that was back in 1998 to 2000. So, upon my request and desire to get away from OR nursing, I was granted the transfer to Active Component [AC] with the stipulation of the critical care course and 8A ASI upon completion of the course.
Anyway, I was a squad leader at AMEDD OBC back in Jan. 2005. Feel free to PM me any specific questions you may have about your upcoming OBC, which you will enjoy, or any other avenues R/T the ANC.
Again, welcome & thank you for your decision to become a member of the ANC. The Military Forum section is awesome here on allnurses.com!
HOOAH!
Hi, I'm new to the forum, and a pre-nursing student looking to join the Navy Nurse Corps via NCP. I'm glad to have found this forum and the discussion of various issues. I don't have much military background, though my brother and several close friends/family friends are actively serving, have served, or went through Academy life (USMMA). Their insight, among other input, has only served to affirm my decision to pursue this field of military service.
Thank you for your service! I look forward to joining the ranks in the relatively near future.

SWVin - Welcome to the Military Forum!
I am in Tennesee My father is a vetnam vet and a retired AF LT Col. I have lived with the Military my entire life. My husband is Navy Reserve and at present on a "training mission". (he is EOD) I am in my third year of my BSN program and working 36 hour a week (as a CNA 11p-7a) to provide enough money to live off of while I am in school also taking 18 hours of classes. (I have three children 15, 11, 6) I am 37. Does anyone know the age restrictions for commitioned nurses? I am very interested in the Navy reserve and wonder if it may be possable to get some money for school and living expences. With my husband gone and final exams in two weeks I do not see being able to work and study. It is really begining to wear me down. I have med/serg in the fall and I can not see being able to work. any suggestions will be very welcomed.

I realize you inquired about Navy Nursing, however I can share with you Army Nurse Corps info; To qualify for an appointment as an Officer in the Army Nurse Corps, you must:
Visit the other Threads in the Military Forum section. I know several topics specfically R/T Navy.
Wow, you have your hands full. Have you ever applied for a Stafford loan? These are at very low interest & payment on the loan is not required until 6 mos after graduation
tpowell346, the age limit is from 20 to 40 but the limit can be waived depending on "case-by-case basis". It can be adjusted. Check this website.
http://www.navy-la.com/nurses.html. This explains a lot of what you want to know. Also, check out the Navy's homepage and look under officer careers. That's what I looked at because I will be an officer.
Also, it's important to go to the OIS (Officer Indoctrination School). I'm a freshman in college and I'm trying to get my BSN to become a Navy nurse. There's also some other important aspects which you can ask other people about. I did extensive research when I was in high school as a sophomore going onto my junior year. Good luck!
Thank you for the info! My cousin went to OIS in Pensicola two summers ago. He is stationed at Great Lakes. I went to his graduation, very impressive! The Navy has so many traditions. My husband went to EOD school at Eglin AFB near Destin Fl We lived there for quite a while and he drilled out of Pensicola and Gulf Port.
Thanks again for the help!!:wink2:
Hello all. I am very close (22 days) to being commissioned into the ANC through ROTC. I joined this site to network with other Army Nurses and hopefully help others make the decision to take care of some of the best patients in the world. Best in my opinion meaning most deserving of our care. I have been in the National Guard for almost 6 years now. The first couple I was an infantryman in a Recon platoon and then I transitioned into the SMP program. I am a licensed EMT and I look forward to serving out a full career on Active Duty. So that's a little about me.
Anyone in the Bragg area shoot me a message. I am looking to buy a house when I get there and I am trying to learn about the housing market.

Search FT Bragg on the internet, then on there site should be a link for ON-Post, as well as Off-Post Housing. The Off-Post section should give you a POC that can send you info about the housing market in that respective area. At least, I followed similar steps before arriving at FT Lewis.
Welcome & good luck!
Thanks for the great forum.
I'm currently residing in Tallahassee, Florida, just completed my BSN program at Florida State University (GO NOLES!) and am trying to start the process of entering the world of military nursing, specifically with the Air Force.
My previous exploits include a B.S. and M.S. in Communication with about 4 years business experience with marketing, business development, and information technology (IT). About 3 years ago I became disenfranchised with the business world and decided to undertake a heartfelt, realistic look at myself, my talents, and my interests to determine what it is that I REALLY want to do with my life in terms of a career. The search led me back to school and into the nursing profession - which culminates in graduation this week!
My goal is to get into critical care nursing and then possibly go to CRNA school. CRNA is a big "IF", though, depending how my experience as a BSN goes in the military.
Regardless, I'm excited about being a new "murse" and the opportunities to serve it will provide and the doors it will open. I hope I'm up to the task.

Another great resource is www.onestoparmy.com. Nice repository of information on all the installations CONUS and OCONUS. Some of the installations have information on both on and off post housing. Good luck and welcome to the Army Nurse Corps!
