Roll Call for all Military and VA Nurses and those considering the Service

Published

As the moderator for this forum ... I am interested to know where everyone is from, their background, branch of service (or VA VISN) and what they like the best about Military or VA Nursing .... this forum generally has some really good traffic, and I would like to pull all of us together and get to know one another a little better.

LOL, you've dated three Soldiers, and decided you'd rather be a nurse in the Navy than the Army. :roll

I did think about Army nursing, but my dad told me I'd be up at the fronts getting shot at so I said no way to the Army. I got more interested in the Navy after watching Pearl Harbor, and I'm also related to a Patriot from the Revolutionary War, which is another reason I decided to join. In fact I have more reasons... interestingly enough, my second boyfriend was going into the Marines before he decided to go into the Army. And my granfather served in the small battle that occurred after the Battle of the Bulge and he was one of the few survivers of that battle, so I feel the military really runs in my family. My last boyfriend is in the Army in Iraq, too. My first boyfriend claimed he'd be out a couple months after we broke up but I still saw him around... but Navy wins hands down! lol thank you for your service in the Army!

Your welcome, btw I'm a USMC Vet, too [1980 - 1988]. I came back into the military via Army Nurse Corps when I accepted appointment to 1LT in 2003.

I wanted to say hello again to this thread :) I posted here waay back when I was looking into the Navy Nurse Corps as a student. I didn't join, as my husband was promoted and the idea of moving to San Diego became more of a problem. Anyway, I'm from a family of career Marines and would love to stay involved through caring for the vets. I meet with the VA on Monday for a position as an extern, to transfer when I pass the NCLEX and get my license(hopefully in early June). I'm excited, and hope that this goes well :).

Good luck! I've got a long way to go to get my BSN and take the test but I heard the test is difficult!

Thanks Corvette Guy! I'm really hoping it goes well. Dream job for me!

Smilin gp, it's a wonderful dream to put into reality because not only to you receive, but you get more out of nursing. It's also a very good use of a BSN, considering the Navy needs more nurses. Actually, when you think about it, military nurses are on the receiving end because the patients have gone through so much and being able to help them makes the care giver feel good. That's why I chose the military to nurse, and to travel, experience, and hopefully find my future husband. Good luck! :)

Re-introducing myself as a VA employee (to-be, pending completion of orientation, etc), rather than a VA hopeful :D

Yay! Congratulations! :)

:balloons: Congrats!

I am excited to be here with you guys and hope to learn from you all. I have my ADN and BS in public health so I am hoping that will get me in higher. I also want to go back to school to be a nurse anesthetist and hope that I will be able to thru the AF. Anyone doing this or have done this?
