Role in level 1 trauma

For those who work in a level 1 trauma center, what role do nurses play in a trauma at your facility?

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

Bedside/primary RN. There are two RNs in the room as part of the trauma team when traumas arrive, and the one who documents initially is typically the one who is ultimately the primary.

^Same.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Emergency, CEN.

The same as a megacode.

Specializes in Family practice, emergency.

Agree with all of the above... usually at least 2 RNs until the severity can be determined. Sometimes more until we get them to CT.

Why only Level 1 Trauma Centers? Any ER can receive a trauma patient. Trauma designation only refers to what resources are available at the facility, but traumas can (and do) go to any ER, regardless of trauma designation.

Because I'm not interested in how a rural hospital attends to a major trauma while waiting to transport the patient to a level one facility. I work in a level 1 and wanted to compare similar hospitals.
