I love my job, i love my residents. That being said, i am getting burned out quickly from the other aspects of the job. We are understaffed and the politics are constantly visible. I guess i am just complaining but i am wondering if any of you guys are in the same position? any advice?

I have been a CNA for almost three years now, and what you are saying is probably the most common thing I hear from my colleagues. CNA's are usually overworked and underpaid :angryfire ...and everyone has there burnout point. I have worked in assisted living, a hospital floor and now a group home. The politics will follow you everywhere!
That being said, I found that what worked best for me was to make sure that I had a person that I could vent to. No details of course, but a developed a friendship with a co worker who had the same feelings as I. Also, I worked part time at two different places, as opposed to full time at one. That way, the variety kept me stimulated and the good things about each place stuck out more. I also started going to the gym and exercising regularly which was a major outlet for me.
Are you continuing your education in the future? The knowledge that what I was doing now would most certainly benefit my future nursing education kept me going through the really rough times.
Good luck to you!! And if you need to vent, you can always come here!

I was just in the same position recently. I finally gave in and switched jobs. So far, I love the new job. It seems that there are a lot less politics going on. Since I couldn’t completely part from the last job because I really did love the work and the residents, I decided to remain on call. If I only work a day or two a week/month it really removes me from the drama.
