Hello!! so I am an RN, BSN in NY- I work on a telemetry floor and will have two years of experience this upcoming October. Lately I have been itching to apply for positions for critical care (main interests either SICU or MICU) and have also been looking to relocate. I was wondering if anyone has updated information on salaries/job satisfaction in hospitals in and surrounding Raleigh, NC and Charlotte, NC. from what I have been finding it seems as though I will take a drastic pay cut which is okay for me if cost of living will be lower. I am particularly interested in Duke, Wakemed and UNC Hospitals and would appreciate any information about these hospitals and what it is like to work there. any information is welcome! haha :) happy nursing!

The pay in the Raleigh-Durham area is pretty much comparable. There are subtle differences in benefits between each. I was not a nurse there, but I am from Chicago and the cost of living is drastically different here. I make more than enough to be comfortable here.
I have no idea about Charlotte, but I like being a nurse where I am. If you are interested in complicated cases in an ICU setting, there are plenty here.
I work at Duke and we have like 7 different ICU units (MICU, SICU, CICU, PCICU, PICU, neuro ICU and neonate ICU). We have a huge transplant team and there are usually transplants of some sort everyday.
UNC has THE burn unit of the area. WakeMed and UNCRex have cardiac specialty wings. All have cancer specialty divisions.
As an experienced nurse, you will find the job you want.
I have no idea what the pay is for experienced nurses at any of the hospitals. I would imagine mid-20s/hr not including differentials. I make much more than that being a weekend option nurse.
Hope this helps! I love it here, there is a lot to do.
