RNs who completed their obligation..."do you still keep coming back"?

First, welcome to the newcomers who come to this section of this forum. I got a lot of help here when I first browsed this site in 2008 (when the **** hit the fan).

I have a question for the nurses who successfully finished their Diversion program, probation, etc.,

Are you still sober and are you still a good friend of "Bill W"?

There was a health professional that came into my meeting this morning and I totally recognized that "court card"! Totally brought me back a lot of memories!! As much as I hated the Board, they did save my life. I loved them and I hated them! Strange!

I pray for the nurses who are still trying to complete their duties and hope it is a better year 2016 for you all!

My wife and I totally laugh at it now how it was and how she wanted to punch my face when everything came out! I don't know why I still go to meetings and have a sponsor, but what I do know is my life is so much better now! Good luck to everyone! And the biggest cliche that I hated when I was new: "Keep coming back", and "This too will pass". I love this cliché now!

To answer your questions - Yes I still go to meetings though not with the same regularity I did when in the program. My sponsor whom I loved passed away a few years back I haven't found another. Like you I both loved and hated the BON for those 5 years but I am alive today only by the grace of God and the firm boundaries set by my monitoring program.

I worked Psych and rehab while I was in diversion and counseled a whole bunch of "Impaired" nurses. I still work with nurses in recovery whenever I can. My screen name is Hppygr8ful for a reason. When I first entered the rooms I would listen to people say they were happy grateful alcoholics in recovery and say to myself "What a crock of BS" but I did not quit before the miracle happened and am so glad today that I didn't.

Peace and Namaste.

Hppy
