Rn specialty salary for NH?

Published

I am an ICU nurse, 6 years experience ,working in So FL right now,and would like to relocate to NH. I was looking at Dartmouth-Hitchcock hospital, and clinics....was just wondering about the rate, and possible work conditions?

Specializes in Rehab.

Sorry it took so long for someone to reply. My mother had been an ICU nurse at Dartmouth in Hanover, and was making around 30-35(Dont remember off the top of my head). Now, this was about 9 years ago, so it may be more, but I imagine, since you have experience, you would be looking around that range, if not even higher

Hi Leanne,

I've worked at DHMC for many years, it's a great place to work. My experience is in critical care. Currently salary is based on years of experience and there is no additional pay for specialty. The thought is that with the high acuity of all the patients and the specialization in all units, an equal pay for equal experience is the fairest means to establish salaries.

Specializes in med/surg, ER, camp nursing.

Expect between $32-35/hr.

Is it possible to find a decent reasonable place (safe, no rodents or bugs....etc-lol) near Dartmouth Hitchcock? I'd like to apply to the new grad program, but am afraid I wouldn't be able to afford to live! It seems like a pricey area, though beautiful! Any advice or thoughts? Thanks so much! Live free or die! (Boy, I wish I could live free- then I wouldn't have to worry about rent and living expenses-lol)

Hi KnewB,

The Good News: There are a lot of Clean-reasonable rentals near DHMC. The Unfortunate News: They are no longer accepting applications for their New Grad Residency Program. The economy has really changed the New Grad employment scene. I believe they have accepted 60 new grads down from the usual 90-100/year. The reason? more experienced nurses are unable to retire, ones that have recently retired have come back for per diem hours and with national and regional hiring freezes and even layoffs of RN's the job market has truly become competative. DHMC is a great place to work and live, I would keep checking their job postings, perhaps positions may open in the Fall for New Grads.

Oh, dear...Thanks for the information; I guess I won't even bother to apply. Too bad. It is a beautiful area; I am surprised they used to hire 90 - 100 new grads! That seems like alot to me. I'm so sad about the state of jobs right now. I left a career with no jobs to go to school for a year to enter another career with no jobs! LOL- my timing is always a little off...:) I worked my fanny off to get straight "A's" in an Accelerated BSN program (supposedly very difficult), hoping it would make me more competitive, but this market is too crazy right now. I certainly can't compete with experience!

Joke of the day: Q: How do you get a nurse graduate off your porch?

A: Pay for the pizza!

Pay for the pizza...OUCH! You do have a good sense of humor and that will certaily help you in nursing. hang in there the job situtation will get better.
