First off, hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and stumbled on it while spending hours trying to research my alternatives.
I'm in Vancouver, BC (permanent resident) planning to go for my RN. I'm a mature student with 19 credit hours from a US university, but most of those credits are liberal arts, so I'm not sure what will really count except for the math and English. I know I'll have to take the A&Ps and Psychs- biology was much more than 5 years ago, but I did make an A! lol
When I first started looking, I found that VCC has a relatively new RN BSN program and I spoke to the academic advisers who told me that there was no wait list. I got approved for my student loan, requested all my transcripts and registered as a student. Today (only a week later) I spoke with a different adviser who informed me that not only is there a wait list, but that there are 49 students on it and that they will only be taking 24. VCC only has a fall intake so she told me that if I'm "lucky" I could get in the class of 2012 but likely 2013! ack. I suppose the only positive there is that they are a first come, first serve school so I will eventually move up the list for sure.
In the meantime, the adviser suggested I apply to multiple schools in the Lower Mainland, and choose one to attend for prerequisites while biding my time, hoping for one of them to eventually send me an acceptance. I'm sure many of you are in the same boat. I applied to Douglas and will probably actually attend there because it is much closer to home than VCC, plus they do two intakes per year so that's a plus. Will anyone be attending the Douglas psych or A&P for summer 2011? Would be nice to know someone going in.
So I guess the purpose of my post is to first make contact with anyone else currently waiting out their time, and also to compare any up-to-date info you have on wait lists. As far as Douglas' preferential placement goes, with a max number of points at 14, what is a "good" number of points to have to be competitive? I'm thinking I will have around 8. >
Thanks for reading!
Hi :) Where are you from? How long have you been in the province? I think its taking a long time for all applications to be processed. :) Have you received a package that says you need to submit reference letters??
thanks for the message! i did email her last night, just waiting for a response, i should be okay though:)
Hi all
I am patiently waiting for responses from both BCIT, and UFV for 2012 intake. I am happy for all who got short listed!!! You are one step closer. Have you ever heard of a person who got short listed and never got in? I got an interview at UFV before writing the essay, and going to the info session. I am hoping that increases my chances, but who knows, or does someone know, lol? As for BCIT, I haven't heard anything since I got the message saying my file is "pending review by department". I am guessing my odds for that school doesn't look good since I haven't heard anything. Nice to know I am not alone while waiting, so I am here for company. Cheers
Haha I just like to have as many available as possbile. Last admission term I applied even though I was missing one requirement so I'm also sort of hoping that maybe they look at that too. It's on my "check application status list" with this intake as well. Probably not but it's a hope! I heard they look at how many times people have applied and this is my first time with a fully complete application.
I found out at work today one of the girls I was training actually completed half of the BCIT Nursing program back in '08 but then dropped out. I think I asked her like 4 billion questions lol.

hey all! I just read like your entire forum and couldnt help but write something. To those of you who have been short listed congrats that is so awesome! I am jealous! A bit about my situation: I applied for ufv for sept 2011, with a A in bio 12 and english 12, and a high B in both Chem and math 11. I had 42 hours volunteer, and no university pre reqs. I was short listed for a interview but didnt get in. I then fled the country in despair! lol Kidding, but I am currently in Haiti volunteering at medical project. Read: i cant get my mail and its driving me crazy!! Cuz i am up for consideration for jan 2012, I just had to do my interview and essay before leaving. I am hoping to fax in the hours i am getting here before they decide who gets seats for jan because i think that would really help my standing. I was wondering if anybody knows if they are still doing interviews at ufv, or when they might come out with results? I am totally isolated as to what is going on in the "real world" so any info would be much appreciated! Thnx and good luck with everything! :)
