So, I currently live in Newport News, VA and I am considering moving to Alabama. I am trying to find out from real nurses what a typical staff RN makes in Alabama. I just graduated this past May. I have my BSN. I will have one year of experience at the time I would be moving. I'm considering the Huntsville area possibly. Any information would be great! Thanks All

Specializes in Orientation hahahaha.

Starting pay is from $18 to $18.75 + about a $5.75 shift diff. We had nearly all hospitals come to our school b/f I graduated. Raises are non existent at my hospital right now. We have an extremely high turnover rate in critical care for the last 3 years b/c of this at the hospital I am currently employed at.

OH, I just have to say, Montgomery has to be the most boring city in Alabama, JMHO....... If your thinking of going there.... Mobile or W Georgia is where I will be heading next.

Specializes in med-surg, psych, ER, school nurse-CRNP.

I live in the northern part of the state, near Huntsville, and as an RN I made between $25-$27 per hour, dependent upon where I was. In a city hospital, they usually pay more. You can also do local agency and make a decent wage. Good luck!
