I am applying for a nurse residency program and i am not satisfied with my essay. it is suppose to explain why i am the best candidate for this program. I already have a cover letter explaining my qualities and work experience. I didn't want to repeat myself so i did not include that information.
here's what i have so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was never a strong writer growing up and though i can't write well, i know i can be a great nurse. i don't my ability to write well to hinder me from a great opportunity.
I have always had a passion in learning. As a new RN and having recently graduated from XYZ accelerated nursing program, ABC's New Grad Resident program is a great opportunity for me to enter the nursing healthcare field and continue my education. This RN program will help foster my confidence and leaderships skills to help me grow professionally as a nurse.
By expanding my knowledge and experiences in nursing and patient care, your residency program will help me reach my next step. Your program will help me evolve into a competent, successful nurse who will to deliver consistent quality care to patients.
ABC's proactive approach in their offering time and resources to help new graduate nurses through a residency program speaks volumes about the dedication to your health systems. It would be an honor to partake in such an opportunity that will help me flourish and develop into a professional nurse.

I'd include something about wanting to work at that hospital long term -- and not just focus on what they can do for you. How are you going to be worth their investment in you? How will they benefit by hiring you? Are you going to just take their resources (education) and then leave?
Hi llg,
Thank you for following up with your comments. I really appreciate your response and have taken them into consideration when revising my essay. If you could take a look at the new draft for any changes, I would greatly appreciate it once again.

I am the best candidate for this position because I am a hardworking and focused individual and have the ability to deliver my best work in everything I put myself into. Can you put something more personal or specific into your essay? Maybe recount a time when you stuck with something long term, persevered, how you chose nursing as a career and tie it into this specific hospital or unit. Flesh out your experience and what it meant to you.
Hello Everyone! So... I completely revised my personal statement and started fresh cause the old one felt like it was garbage to me. I know I can be my own worse critic but I am really feeling strong about this one. Any fresh eyes on this would be tremendous appreciated!
here we go!
During my undergraduate career, I had a struggle in choosing what career I wanted to pursue. My advisor and I spoke about what I wanted to do with my life and I recall telling her I wanted to make a difference by helping people and that I wanted to make that difference by being by their side. To create that emotional, personal connection with my patients was the reason why I chose to pursue a career in nursing.
I am the best candidate for this ED Graduate Residency position because I am passionate about helping others. It brings me great joy to be able to be part of the journey during the patient’s recovery. Currently at the out-patient clinic I work at, I have the opportunity to work with patients and my favorite ones to work with are the ones I have the opportunity to see them progress and improve their health. But, there are many times when an acute emergency situation happens and a patient has to be transported to the ED. With these patients, I do not have the chance to provide the care they need due to my limited work setting. I know this ED Residency Program can provide me with a great opportunity for me to transition into the nursing healthcare field in a hospital setting and continue my passion in helping others. Given the chance, I will work hard with your nursing team and deliver my best efforts. I have only heard positive remarks about your healthcare system and I hope to be a permanent part of your staff during the conclusion of this program.
This version is much better! It lets more of your personal quality shine through. Best wishes to you!
