RN renewal help!

Published

I need ALL the help & advice. I have been an RN for almost 15 years. I was stopped by store security with unpaid merchandise on the bottom of my shopping cart, that I absolutely forgot was there. They charged me anyway. However, they did not follow up or show up to court and the case was reduced to trespassing and then nulle prosequi and dismissed. I am in the process of having the whole terrible ordeal expunged. The issue is, I am up for my license renewal. Has anyone disclosed such an agreement and had their renewal denied?

Obviously I can't give you any legal advice. But here is my experience: I had a very old shoplifting charge on my record from when I was a young adult. I had to do a diversion/education program and then it was dismissed. I disclosed it to the BON and wrote a letter explaining the circumstances, highlighting what steps I had taken (the class and community service I performed), and addressing how I have learned and grown as a person and never had another charge. Most importantly, I was told that I must take full responsibility, regardless of whether I felt it was a mistake or error or whatever. They did not have an issue with approving my license. They didn't ask any additional questions or anything. Good luck!
