RN refresher courses/employment

I tried changing specialties from Alternative Medicine to Hospice. Recent med/surg is needed. So now I am taking a refresher course. Just want to know if I will be eligible for med/surg hire after this? Any recruiters out there that can answer or someone with actual experience?

I took a refresher course last fall and the results for our class finding employment were pretty good. I would encourage you to start looking for a job now. I waited until after I was done with the class and that was almost too late. I did find a job that I really like (postpartum), but I probably could have started sooner had I been applying while still in the class.

The other thing is that students anticipating December graduation are already out there applying and they are going to be your competition. I've talked with a number of June grads who already had job offers or acceptances back in February or March.

You, as an experienced nurse, should have a leg up on the newbies, but you have to make yourself known or many of the good opportunities will be filled by the time you put yourself out there.
