RN refresher course!

Published

hi guys!..i graduated since 2008 in the philippines and passed my RN license there and had a 6mo. post graduate training..after that i was not able to work in the hosp. anymore, then tried to take the NCLEX-rn/pn exam here in NY but unfortunately didn't pass..decided to take a refresher course since i read here that some hosp. require it if you didn't have clinical experience for atleast 4yrs up!..what is the best school here that you can recommend???...your comment will be most appreciated!..thank you! 😉

I have heard about Molloy College in Long Island having a reputable refresher course. Do you have an RN license in NY? if you don't, then its pointless and waste of your time and money to take an RN refresher course because no place in NY or the USA will hire someone without a license. So get your license first then go for the refresher course. Also if u need your visa sponsored by an employer/job that would be an issue also as no employers sponsor visas anymore (unless you have a LOT of experience or work for the United Nations) as there are many applicants who already have green card, citizenship, or have their visa sponsored by their family or friend.

As long as you have your visa done and your RN license in NY, then yes go for refresher course as a help to get hired.

Hi estrellaCr! Are pertaining to sponsorship of tourist visa to working visa? I have a tourist visa and going to the NCLEX hopefully this march. I'm planning on going to NY after I've passed my NCLEX

hi estrellaCR!!!..thank you for the info..i am a green card holder here..my husband petitioned me from the philippines..i thought it will be helpful for me to take the refresher course for my nclexRN exam...i tried to take nclexRN here in NY but i didn't pass that's why i'm planning to take refresher course because that might help....

If you have green card then you are good, you dont need the job to sponsor you. The refresher course does Not review for NCLEX...Refresher course is a review of clinical skills to show facilities that you are updated on nursing skills.. In the refresher course you would be going to nusing homes and hospitals and practicing nursing on patients. If you want help to review for NCLEX...i would advise that you take the Kaplan NCLEX Prep course...this helps you review nursing textbook knowledge and do practice questions and tests. Refresher course you can do after you pass NCLEX to show jobs you have current nursing hands on knowledge.

oh!..ok thank you very much it really helps...appreciated!.. 😁☺️😄

Guys do I need to take a refresher course? I am from the Philippines and graduated BSN on 2010. Took the NCLEX on 2011 and then got a volunteer training for only 3 months. End of 2012 I arrived here in the US and now 2015 I am moving to NY. Do I have to take refresher course or not really? Thanks.

Does my volunteer training counts? I had it around may 2012. Thanks

hi paularoid!..not sure about about that.. 😊

Volunteering does not count as nursing experience. it can look as a plus on a resume but if a job requires clinical experience...volunteering does not count. This is because volunteers are not permitted to do any nursing tasks, and hospitals/facilities want to avoid any liability. Volunteers in the US can observe RNs, pass out supplies, answer call bells, but cannot do assessments, meds, procedures, etc. If you have not worked as RN is several years then a refresh course looks goo when you apply for jobs.

Hi! I am a registered nurse in the Philippines, batch 2007.

I got my greencard last December 2014 so i don't have any problem with regards to sponsorship.

My husband is from California but I am aware about the concurrency issue there so I am not even intending to submit my requirements to CA BON. I am considering to apply in New York but I am very confused about the procedure. What is the first thing that I should be doing? CGFNS-CVS, right?

Can someone please guide me.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks so much!
