I'm a newly registered nurse from a city here in Mindanao, a June '08 board passer, and still, without any professional experience. i really want to try my luck in other places, perhaps the big cities like manila, etc. but, you see, i have so many thoughts about it. because i have observed that those who studied in big cities are going back to their provinces to have their clinical experience, seminars, and trainings. i know it's not that easy to find hospitals in manila and any other places. my reasons are: i want to get out of this place because of personal reasons and the special person in my life is not here.. i want us to be together. on the other hand, there is also this one reason why I'm having second thoughts. it's because of my family. well, I'm not the eldest, but my two older siblings are in Manila so i feel like I'm obliged to look after my parents. my friend said that my parents are still able and I'm just obliging myself to do that. she said that I now have my own life and dreams. any advice? is it better if i just stay here for my clinical experience? I'm confused  help please...

If you are willing to work as a volunteer first, then a lot of hospitals there are open for it. I also suggest to get a certificate for IV therapy since most of the hosp. there are requiring that.

I'm done with all the necessary certificates, IV, BLS, first aid..

there's a lot of competition for nursing jobs in manila. you can do a search here and see that a lot of registered nurses even 2007 board passers are still unemployed or waiting for calls from hospitals.it is also expensive, and tiring trying to find a nursing job in manila.

i'd suggest that you work in the provincial hospitals first, gain experience and then apply somewhere else, not necessarily manila, even abroad.

as for your parents, i think they will understand when you eventually leave them. parents only want the best for their children, and i guess one of the reasons that they see you being a nurse is that you will eventually go abroad, since the chances of your finding a job abroad is big.

good luck!

thanks a lot gorgeous77. i really appreciate what u said.. yeah i know there's a lot of competition in manila that's why I'm hesitant with my decision.. anyway, i might stay here or go to Visayas and apply to the provincial hospitals there. thanks again! thanks guys! really a big help!! :)

I am going to throw my two cents into this:

Please look for jobs if anything in even smaller provinces, this is where you are going to find work. Forget about going to Manila, there are so many unemployed RNs there, that it in no longer even funny.

You are always going to have luck going smaller and not to a larger city. If you truly wish to actually work as an RN, this is not the time to consider going to the big city at all.

Best of luck to you.

i would strongly suggest that you look for a nursing jobs in the province instead here in manila. yes, most of the big and well known hospitals are here in manila, but there is a slim chance of getting hired because there are many applicants. even those who lived here were having a hard time looking for one. and it would be of your convenience because you dont have to be away from your family.

thanks guys! this is an enlightenment for me, really. i appreciate it a lot! :redpinkhe
