RN positions in NC

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello all! Though this is my first post on allnurses.com, I am not completely new to the site. I have read through so many forum posts over the past few years and finally joined because I just knew that someone on here might be of help to me. So, here is my predicament:

I graduated with my ADN this past May (2007). When I graduated, I was just not ready to accept an RN job right away (my Mom had been very sick plus the final semester of nursing school had completely worn me out) so I took the summer off so that I could start a job with my full focus on my RN duties. Now, I have been applying for about 6 weeks and still have not been offered a position. I had one telephone interview about a week ago but that is it. It seems like alot of hospitals in my area are not hiring new grads right now, though alot of their online application job titles are "New Grad RN." The thing is, I am willing to relocate (not too far away: NC, SC, VA, TN, GA) and I absolutely love the concept of travel nursing, so maybe I am just not looking in the right place or going about this the right way? I don't know, but I am starting to question my entry into the nursing field, when this is all I've ever wanted to do!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :uhoh3:

hi web!

first of all, congrats on your recent graduation!!

(i'm applying to nursing school this semester and hope to one day be a graduate like you.)

second of all, i don't know very much about where the Nursing Jobs are in some of the states you listed, but i did just want to give you this nugget since i saw you posted yesterday and no one had responded yet--i do know a little bit about nsg jobs in va. from the research i've done online and by reading the washington post there are lots of nsg jobs in va. especially if you're willing to work in the northern va region (like in the counties nearby the dc metro area).

hope this helps, best of luck to you!

Congrats on choosing nursing school and hang in there because it can definately get tough at times! Thank you very much for your input and I will see what I can find out about VA jobs! :icon_hug:

Specializes in ICU.

Hi and congrats on your success in school! I am also in the NC area and I am in the process of re-entering the nursing field after a 5 year break. I have to say, it was a bit discouraging at first. I have found that now, in the age of technology, every application seems to be taken online now. I applied to all the major hospitals online and specifically to individual jobs on their websites. I also posted my resume online. I also did check out ads both online and in the newpaper. You might check out the smaller hospitals as well. There are so many in the Raleigh and surrounding areas. Really look at your resume. There were some great resume sticky notes on the nursing career forum. I also invested time in researching the company or hospital I interviewed with and came up with a list of questions to ask the manager to inform me about not only the job but the hospital's concept of patient care and those providing it. It literally took me 4 months of getting my resume out there and calling and applying before the phone calls started rolling in. I did finally find a job and I am so excited. I will be starting in the next 2 weeks. It was worth the wait because I really liked the nurse manager and the people in the area I will be working in. You have the right idea when it comes to following up. Continue to do that. I found that my resume was getting lost among many and sadly, that delays many people's potential to fill a position. If you know ANYONE with some position that knows who is the manager in an area of interst is, drop the name(s). Sometimes that will get nurse recruiters attention as well. Good luck to you!!
