RN pay in TX medical center Houston????

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I have been offerred a job as a research RN in Maternal Fetal Medicine. I understand that as a research RN I will not make top of scale as a clinical RN would. However they asked me to submit what hourly pay range I would accept......we just moved to TX and I have no idea what the pay is.

So what is top of scale for an RN in the TX Medical Center (this job is at Hermann)? I have been paid top of scale at the last 2 hospitals as I now have almost 13 years in labor and delivery. At least that info would give me a starting point

thanks

Congrats on the job :)

I do not know the scale of pay for a research RN, but I would assume that you arent going to take this job and make less. I would also assume that Hermann knows how long you have been a nurse for and they know they will most likely have to match or go above your current salary.

Therefore, I'd submit a number range higher then what you are making now, but state you are willing to negotiate.

I can also tell you that for a staff nurse (unsure if this carries over to your position or no), there is a "med center" extra pay, which is around 8% more then any other Hermann hospital in the system. This is mainly b/c you are working in the med center, as well as there is no free on site parking in the med center. (With the exception of Shriners hospital).

You stated you just moved to Texas, I'm curious as to where you live. (sometimes the commute into the med center is long!)

Good luck!

Meghan, what do you think a staff RN would make in the med center at top of scale? I hadn't really considered the fact that I would have to pay for parking, good point. I am commuting from Pearland. Thanks for your response

Love Pearland - hubby and I live about 5 minutes drive away and do all of our shopping there. 288 is the best drive into the Med Center, in my opinion! And, the traffic isnt too bad on 288 compared to the other highways.

As for Salary -

I can tell you that as a RN with 2 years experience I'm making around 30 an hour. (days) I also know a new grad starts out between 26-28 an hour (days). None of those numbers include shift differential.

I have a friend who works at Herman PRN with over 5 years experience and she makes about 40 an hour doing this.

Now i've only been in Texas for 2 years, so thats about all I know!

You can also try Salary.com - I looked up research nurse and the top numbers for zip code 77030 (med center) is around 78k. Mean is 58k-71k.

Hope that helps somewhat..

Edited to add:

As for parking - there is free off site parking. You'll get all of that info from HR. You will either have to shuttle into the hospital, or take the metro rail (and I beleive you get a pass to do so for free). On site parking sucks up money - 10$ a day. You can also buy a parking pass but its around 100$ a month. Weekend parking at Hermann is free.
