RN new grad finding jobs in NYC

Published

Hi!! I just got my license last month and I'm finding a hard time to find a job. Please help me, anyone who's kind to share who's hiring? or know some job fair for RNs? pleeeaaasssseeeee!

Hiya, I just graduated too and am in the job hunting boat. What I've been doing is Craigslist, Careerbuilder, Monster and indeed.com. I also get dressed up and hand deliver a coverletter (unique to the facility I'm applying to), Resume, and references to different places in the area. I started a couple days ago and have my first interview on Monday. Good luck!

I live in Mass btw.

Specializes in MedSurg, PACU, Maternal/Child Health.

Its gonn take more than a month to find a job in NYC depending on what job you are looking for. In NYC, showing up at a facility with a resume will not work. They will roll their eyes at you and tell you to apply online. HR does not wan in person applicants and neither do nurse managers, if you are lucky to be let upstairs by security. You either have to apply online or go to job fairs/open houses. Unfortunately with these, they look for experience RNs. My hospital had an open house in February for experienced RNs and loads of new grads showed up. Be open to other settings besides hospitals. Online you can find RN jobs on idealist.org and newyork.craigslist.org healthcare jobs section. If you try other settings besides hospital, you will get a job faster.

Also if you are open to working psychiatry, they are always hiring. I know Kings County and other city hospitals have open houses for their Behavioral Health (aka Psychiatry) departments and experience is not required. You have to have patience and some passion about Psych though as many go into Psych just bc they want a job and then quit a few months later because they cant handle it. However being city hospitals, you will get great experience as the acuity of patients is high and you will see and learn things that you may not at a private hospital.
