RN New to Florida Interested in Care Management

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello everyone,

I am nurse that will relocating from NYC to Florida at the end of the year. I have 1 year experience working with an MLTC as an assessment nurse, and 4+ years working in a hospital with equal experience in clinic (geriatrics and medicine) and Mother-Baby. I am interested in obtaining a care managers position once I move to Florida, but I'm worried it will be a difficult position to be get. I am no longer interested in working on the floor and I have also noticed the pay rate for care managers is a bit higher than floor nurses. Anyone have any advice on what companies hire nurses with no experience in this role, as well as any resume or interview tips for this position. I would highly appreciate it.

Side note: I am open to any general advice for a nurse coming from NYC to Florida.

Thanks all!

HI Evamilly87,

I read your post. I would look on website www.indeed.com for case management positions. You have the options of looking for case management work within a hospital - but I think they will want recent experience in this field - like 2 years. I would look for Health Insurance companies like Florida Blue, Aetna, United Health Group, Cigna, Humana, Anthem.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards Brissygal

I moved to the Bradenton/Sarasota area 6 weeks ago from SC. I applied to 3 home health case management positions and received an offer from all 3. There are plenty of positions here. You can even go through a travel agency to see if it's something you like.  I will warn you that the positions pay based on a point system. You get paid a set amount per visit not by the hour even if your documentation takes you through bedtime. That's why I left. Good luck!
