Hi Fellow Nurses! I am actively seeking the Chamberlain RN-BSN-MSN FNP Program (whew, that was a lot to type.) I have a BA in another subject and work PT as an RN. I have a lot of questions before I send in my transcripts.
1. How long does this entire program take?
2. Does my preceptor have to be in the same state that I reside in?
3. How much does the program cost? Can I apply for a Stafford Loan or any type of Financial Aid?
4. What's the pass rate of the program?
I appreciate any suggestions or information that any of you may have.

Not recommended. I dropped out first class. Massive mistake on my part.
If you don't mind, can you elaborate on why? What program would you recommend?

1. How long does this entire program take? It's about 2 1/2yrs
2. Does my preceptor have to be in the same state that I reside in? The same state you're licensed in
3. How much does the program cost? It's $1800/class+you fly up there to do some testing. Doctorate is higher.
Can I apply for a Stafford Loan or any type of Financial Aid?
The best I've ever heard is people getting $500.00, other than outside loans
I'm sorry, I don't know that.
I just dropped out. I have a cumulative 4.0, but unable to keep up there, even having taken MSN classes before. There were a few things I learned upon bill receipt/after I started, so info's hard to get up front given you register by phone & credit card. No help w/clinicals, required to find your own before first class, but all this isn't always clear when you're a month into the process/starting in 1wk. Classroom conversations all APA w/references, not like standard scholarly discussions w/assignments. Assignments made Sun, graded tough & due Wed, except for the weekly project next Sun. To summarize=2 APA posts w/references (basically papers), 2 APA responses/wk + weekly referenced APA project/presentation, etc. Impossible w/my workload. I was endangering first lifetime fail by staying. Maybe just not for me. Upsetting If you have any disability, they don't accept cert if>5yrs old, even if it's permanent, they want you to find someplace and go through retesting all over again. Having said that, I don't know if I'd really recommend it or not! Maybe it would be great for you. I'm just forever relieved I quit, weight off my shoulders. I'm determined to finish, just not there.

Hey PuppyPyrex,
I currently attend Chamberlain FNP program. I also did their RN-BSN program. The school is very self-taught. So you are going to get what you put into it. The school does not offer lectures, everything is from the books, articles, and lessons they provide as well as discussion. I am not an auditory learner so that is fine for me. But on the other hand some people need that, and need synchronized classes vs asynchronized classes. So first determine exactly what type of learner you are and look into online environments that match that. Second Chamberlain is not going to old your hand, so you got to be independent and self-motivated to survive in online environments. I personally have had no issues with Chamberlain. The school platform is easy to navigate, the expectations are clear. Every teacher has responded to me within 24 hours. Chamberlain website answers your questions.
1.) How long does this entire program take? 3 1/2 years for the RN-MSN FNP- Now you can double up some courses in the MSN portion and cut that down to 3 years.

2.) Does my preceptor have to be in the same state that I reside in? Whatever state you hold your license in. Now some states have not approved CCN, so you will need to verify if your state is okay. RN-BSN to MSN Program Approvals | Chamberlain
3.) How much does the program cost? Can I apply for a Stafford or any type of Financial Aid?
I received a unsubsidized federal loan for the FNP program. They do offer discounts for alumni, military and their spouses, and if your organization is partnered with them. The cost varies depending on where you are at in the program. The RN-BSN program is 25000, The FNP program is 38000. I would recommend to take as many classes for liberal arts at a community college to reduce costs. RN-BSN to MSN Tuition, Cost of RN-BSN to MSN Program | Chamberlain
4.) What's the pass rate of the program? I do not know, because the program is only a couple years old, many of the students are just now graduating. I can tell you the capstone FNP class is primarily a review for the ANCC or AAPN certification, and you must pass the APEA test at the end of the class, and can retake again at your own cost. If you fail twice you must retake the capstone. People who pass the APEA have a 99% pass rate for either ANCC or AAPN certification.
I chose Chamberlain because my husband is military, and we move frequently. I didn't want to get stuck starting prerequisites that can change state to state. I have enjoyed the learning experience, and continue with them because I am familiar with the online learning environment and know what to expect. Stick with the devil you know, LOL. I hope this helps. And if you decide to choose Chamberlain you are more than welcome to send me a PM.

How has the program gone thus far? If you could give us an update on if you are about to finish or finished that would be great!
I'm going to take a break and start back up again next year January 2019.
