RN Moving to San Francisco, CA

Published

Hello everyone!

Wanted to get some opinions/advice. Moving to San Francisco in January - working on receiving my license now. Does anyone have any idea about the job market and about average salary? How easy is it to get a job in the bay area

Thank you!

If you have experience, outlook is good. Theres a lot of hospitals, and even more just outside of the city too. No luck for new grads without experience though. Pay is usually very high. I would estimate starting pay between $45-55, and over $60/hour at Kaiser hospitals.

Good Luck!

Yes, Kaiser nurses make about $65/hr starting, and with the differential pay and experience, I know full time RNs with base wages of $80/hr. CA state hospitals make somewhat less (about 50-55/hr), but there is plenty of overtime that can ridiculously inflate an RN's salary. if you google "highest paid nurse in California:" or look up state employee salaries for nurses in California (through CA state website), you will see dozens of RNs who have cleared 300,000 in 2015

Any luck for you? I found a temporary position with UCSF through a nurse registry. Still trying to get into acute care with no luck.

Even when I am looking to apply hours outside of the city, they need at least two years experience. Thanks for your advice, I'll look into the state hospitals!
