I'm scheduled to start the RN program in January but right now I am in a really uncomfortable situation so I'm thinking that I should just do the LPN program for now because I really need the money. I just want a professional opinion, Would this be a mistake?
If your desire is to become an RN and you were already accepted into the RN program, then, attend. You can inquire about taking the LPN exam midway through the program if you wish, but be sure that this is an option for you. My state allowed RN students to sit and challenge NCLEX-PN until 2007...now, it is no longer an option until the student graduates, and then, it doesn't make sense to keep both licenses.

I am currently in somewhat of the same boat. I was registered for LPN but decided that RN would be a better fit (if I get in). The costs for the programs were basically the same price, give or take a few thousand. Since I have been in school for a few years, being that I am currently in my senior year of my Bachelor of Business Admin. it was best I go for RN to eliminate lots more years of school and costs of getting to my ultimate goal of getting my Masters in Nursing. Think about what you might want to do as a nurse in the future and work with that, that is basically what I did...adding in the time frame of the RN and LPN programs, the costs of each and the possibility of getting a hospital to pay for the advanced degree.....It is a LOT to think about but seriously, take some time to do your "homework" and find what is best for you and your situation...ultimatly your the only one who knows your whole situation and what is best for you. Good luck and I wish you all the best!!!!!!
