I begin nursing school at Medical Careers Institute in January, and after reading a few threads I am quite alarmed that I wont be able to find a job after graduation! Are there any resent graduates out there who could advise me on the job outlook in the Richmond, VA area?
Also on another note are there any RN graduates from Medical Career Institute? Would you recommend the school?
Thanks so much for your help!

Did you get any replies to this post???
This is a question that I would like some answers on aswell... maybe you have some by now.
What is the MCI RN program like? is it worth the high tuition rates?
Did you go to the Richmond Campus?
After further research and speaking to actual nurses in the area. I chose to go the old fashion route and complete my pre reqs at Richard Bland College and then attend Southside Regional Medical Center Nursing program. I was told the job prospects are good if you go the regular route. From my research the failure rate is very high from MCI and most hospitals do not want nurses who did an accelerated program. So for me the cost did not match the benefits. Hope that helps.

I am currently in the RN program at the Richmond campus (done in AUG). I am not sure what rates you saw but if you go on the BON our RN pass rates are on par with other schools. In fact the class that just graduated (Feb 2010) has a 100% pass rate so far with only 1 student still waiting to take the test. As for hospitals not hiring from accelerated programs I don't think that is true, I think it all depends on whether the hospital has positions because right now MCV isn't even hiring its OWN nursing graduates. Luckily, my floor is waiting for me to graduate. One girl at the VA will have a job when she is done. A student that works at Henrico Doctor's will have a position created for her. Another recent grad just got hired by Henrico Doctors. My homegirl in the LPN program now works at MCV's childrens pavilion. I think it really depends on whether or not you already have your foot in the door...
