Any nurses working as an independent contractor at a hospital, but not an agency nurse? What is your role? How did you negotiate the opportunity?

I would venture to say that most, if not all, independant contract services to hospitals specifically are provided at the advanced practice level. (NP, CNS, CRNA, etc.) I think you could provide contract services for other settings (physicians office, LTC, etc.) a little bit easier because they may be more used to obtaining nursing services in this manner.

I have known quite a few nurses that have independently contracted directly thru a hospital and have cut out the agency in the middle. But you will need to set yourself up as a corporation, or LLC; and submit all of the required documents that an agency would and meet the same requirements as you would then be considered a vendor and not an employee of the facility.

But be aware that is can change the way that you are payed, and it can be monthly as they do for vendors. Will depend on what you have in your contract that the facility agrees to.
