RN generic full Time fall 2014- Miami dade college

Published

I'm applying for the Generic Full Time RN program for fall 2014 (August). I took my NLN Pax exam already and got an overall score of 143. Curious if this will be goof enough to get in? Can't find any stats since the previous test was the TEAS... Looking forward to hearing back from anyone else that has taken the test already. Thx.

Is anyone ordering the box lunch for the sos boot camp?

Where did you find this information?

So they can accept you accelerated and denied you full time if you pick both option ?

Yes, Some people were accepted in all the options that they applied for. I applied for ft generic bridge. I received an acceptance letter for the bridge. I totally forgot I even applied for the ft generic. I was too excited. The excitement has worn off. Now I'm anxious

I had to go to the medical campus to find out I didnt get in. So I applied to the spring term...full time only. They said my science gpa was low...looking back at my science grades I did pretty well, so I thought...got 3 C's the rest A's and B's...dont know what to do to raise my gpa score...any suggestions? Im terrible at science

I'm sorry to hear that. If you don't get in for Spring, sit with an advisor and ask what science pre-reqs will they allow you to repeat for a better grade. Take them during Fall so that if you are denied for Spring you can have them done in time to apply for Fall2015. I thought I was not going to be accepted because I had a C in Microbiology, but the rest were As so I guess that was good enough. Weigh out all your options hun. Good Luck!

Thanks coco!

Oh Lord. Lots of questions. I which I could help you, but I'm not in the program yet. Some of the questions you asked has been answered here. Just try to search back thru the # of pages.Good luck.

For those that took the Pearson test last Wednesday, the results are posted. Not that it matters but I did okay.

No. There isn't one on the EDGT website. It's likely out of the book but the directions we received weren't concise.

I'm not 100% positive but I believe it's the same code for everyone. I'm also attending Boot Camp session 3 and my EDGT session declares Instructor: Browne, Valerie (SOS Boot Camp I). I'm not worrying about it.

Thanks. Lol

Hey everyone! I'll be starting the accelerated program next month. Just checked out my results from that pearson test we took at orientation and I got an 88%. What do you guys think our performance on that exam is a reflection of? Like if we did well is that a prediction of our performance in nursing school. Alternatively, if we did poorly does that mean we'll do poorly in nursing school? Also, for those of you reading that already completed the accelerated nursing program I have a few questions: Is it absolutely necessary to purchase scrubs from the bookstore or can we buy them from the uniform store across the street (near wendy's)? Is the $100 clinical bag absolutely necessary for purchase? Someone I met at orientation told me we don't even use it. Lastly, which textbooks do you recommend buying and which do you recommend not buying? They told us everything is required to purchase, but they always say that in college. Also, is it acceptable to wear a plain white lab coat (like the one we wore in chem labs in undergrad) with our name badge if we do not have the mdc nursing embroidery? Is classroom attendance mandatory? How are most lectures taught- by powerpoint presentation? Are there opportunities for nursing students to socialize? I'd really like to have the chance to speak with graduates of the AO program so I can hear first hand accounts. I'm really excited about beginning this program and I really like the short time I've spent at MDC while completing my nursing prereqs. I'm confident that all of us in the accelerated program will have a great time and be very successful especially since we completed a bachelors already.

Hi and Congratulations on being accepted! I am about TWO weeks away from finishing up the AO program at MDC! (can't wait!) I am going to attempt to answer your questions as best as I can...

The Pearson test is more for you to be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses so that you know what you may need to work/focus on. They never mentioned anything about the test after we took it! but I'm guessing if you did really poorly, they may pull you aside to point you in the direction of tutors/resources to help you. (88% is not poor at all)

You may absolutely purchase scrubs at the store across the street. I only wish I had known about that place! As far as the lab coat- I haven't even seen mine since fundamentals skills lab (the beginning) It is a pain to wear while your doing stuff anyway. They made a big deal about it in the beginning then nobody cares as long as you're in uniform.

The clinical bag is necessary for testing purposes. Most of us really didn't use much out of there since the lab pretty much supplies everything you need for practice and you get two of everything in the bag but you will need your own stuff for testing. I still have most of the stuff just let me know if you want it!

I would recommend all of the books on the list but I'm a book person. A lot of them come in e-book versions so if you can get ahold of those and you don't mind them go for it. i did get the ucentral app for the supplemental (medical dictionary, pocket guide, lab values, drug guide) books and that worked out well, I use it all the time.

The lectures are powerpoint based, and they'll usually send you the power points ahead of time. Use them as a guide to focus your reading.

In AO you will become very close with your classmates. They will become your family and socialization is a good way to unwind with people who get what you're going through. You will probably develop a small core group of friends from class but for the most part everyone helps each other out and it is one big family.

Classroom attendance is not mandatory except for in leadership. But I HIGHLY recommend you go to class every day!

I hope I got everything! In AO you are kind of thrown in there because of your degree status. They do expect you to be able to handle yourself since you already have a degree. I can be rough, I won't lie but it will be worth it in the end. Just remember to stay focused but also, take time for yourself. the good thing is that since you have the same few instructors for your core classes, you will get to know them well and can be a strong base of support if you're struggling. As long as you show a genuine interest in doing well and actually learning and understanding the material, they will help you in any way they can.

Let me know if you have any other questions and Congrats again to everyone!
