What is it like to be a nurse in France?
What is it like to be a nurse in Italy?
I have been an RN in California for 3 years. I have My BSN. I have a good job here, however have a passion for French and Italian culture.. could see my self living there. I wanted to talk to nurses who have some knowledge, advice..
from my current knowledge I understand the income is quite less compared to the states, especially California - are nurses still able to get by?
what is the patient population like?
what are pros/cons of nursing in Europe?
Any input at all is appreciated.
Thank you!

Do you speak fluent French or Italian?
Getting a work permit will be a hurdle.

Citizenship is your main concern. Do you qualify for an EU passport?

I am US citizen and nurse and my family (husband and kids are are all dual citizens French/American). We are moving there in the summer. I am eligible to get my citizenship and will do so. We've been married for 15 years and I've looked into it time and time again. You must be a EU citizen, fluent in the language of the country where you work. I think for France the Swiss Red Cross is the agency to help you understand how to get your credentials converted. France is very bureaucratic, red tape around everything. Takes forever to get anything accomplished. They all work as CNAs for 2 years then nursing school. In the end you make about minimum wage or slightly higher. Nothing wages in the states. I have an accelerated BSN so I know I won't have enough training hours even though I have years of experience scrubbing hearts in the operating room. I'm thinking of getting an online job with an American insurance company and working abroad. Has anyone done that?
