RN at Davita or Ideal Image

Published

So I just got my BSN and my license, it's hard to find a job here but I have a job offer from Davita as a chronic care dialysis RN and another offer from Ideal Image as an aesthetic nurse. Davita will provide 10 weeks of paid training and Ideal image would fly me out to Florida and provide me paid training for a week with a free hotel stays. Which would be better to start my career out as a nurse? I don't really want a super stressful nursing job since I'm still a new grad and I don't think I'm ready to be responsible for people with unstable acute complicated conditions, but after a year or so, I plan on moving on and branching out into a more challenging job which would offer me better pay and benefits in the future. So what do you think is the better choice to start with? The starting pay are exactly the same for both jobs, but ideal image has slightly better benefits. Has anyone worked for Davita or ideal image here?

As a new grad I think any first new job is going to feel stressful on some level.

What is your 5 year goal? If you see yourself in a hospital setting I would say go for the dialysis job. That type of experience will carry you further and will open more doors. The aesthetic job sounds interesting, but a week of paid training? That would be barely enough for an experienced nurse and would scare me away.

I work for Davita now I would not recommend it, they will make you believe you will be a nurse and in reality you will be a tech with some nurses duties, nurse duties are held hostage until you are a charge nurse. You will be taught policies and the place you work nobody uses it and when you try to follow policy patients time you and say you are too slow.

@Collor

Yeah, that's true. Especially, since it's nursing.

and I'm not sure, I just want a job that's not too crazy where I have ridiculous patient ratios. So right now I wanna have a chance to grow and expand my career options as a nurse. Yea, that's why I actually took the job with Davita. The people who worked there said I could be an FA in the future and have other career options. And yeah, it's only a week of training for using the hair removal machines haha but yeah anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to give me some advice!! :)

Aww. I just took the job offer, I wish I could have seen that earlier, but thanks for the input. What state are you from? The Davita I applied for was in Nevada, they seemed so nice though.. Is it really stressful since you said your duties are more like a tech? Or does that mean you have less responsibilities? And at Davita, they said that the nurses don't hook the patients to the dialysis machine, the pcts do it. Is that true as well?

and another thing, do they ever leave you as the only RN in the entire clinic throughout the day?

You are going to be just fine at dialysis. 1 year of experience.....then figure out where you really want to be. Don't be afraid of hard work. Everyone deterred me from ever going to ER...and I loved it! Experience is experience.

That's what I was told too and it is not the truth. I'm in Texas but good luck. If you are in one in a small town it is usually one nurse.
