Seriously considering taking an online certified RN Coder/Auditor course. Has anyone taken it? Is this a needed, lucrative field? Any advice?

Thanks

Quit about a year ago. Things were not all they were cracked up to be.

What exactly happened? You're previous posts about this company were so positive. Please e-mail me at [email protected]. I have some other questions regarding this company as well. Thanks in advance!

I am a recruiter for one of the RAC contractors and we are currently hiring Nurse Coders to audit Medicare charts from home. We prefer a CCS - Certified Coding Specialist certification through AHIMA. An RHIT or RHIA is also sufficient but they require degrees. AHIMA offers a basics coding course. Find out more at www.ahima.org.

We require experience with MS-DRG inpatient coding. If you know of anyone who fits this description send them my way.

tlabedelle, I am not currently certified but I'm definitely pursuing the kind of work you are offering. I have sent you a PM.

After thinking about it, I decided to edit this message with information about myself. I have a MSN in Community Health, but I'm not working at the present time. I am taking a refresher course pursuant to reactivating my RN license, which should happen in September. I live in Mississippi and would like to work from home doing chart auditing or coding.

I am completely at a loss as to what program I should choose for becoming certified for coding or auditing. I've found some information about it, but I'm a little swamped and overwhelmed. Any help finding my way would be appreciated.

I am not a certified coder.....yet, However I do work within the insurance industry auditing claims and utilization. I actuall have been applying at a couple of different companies that have contracts for the medicare referral and really would like to do this type of work at home. If you would like to tell me what company, I would gladly send my resume to you.

Thank you!
