RN Coder/Auditor

Published

Seriously considering taking an online certified RN Coder/Auditor course. Has anyone taken it? Is this a needed, lucrative field? Any advice?

Thanks

wiscodenver,

I have 7 years billing and coding for home health prior to becoming an RN, but that was 13 years ago, so it was all very new to me...will be crossing my fingers for the next 2 weeks!

hello all!!! hope everyone is doing well..... very interesting posts..... thanks to everyone.... just an update.... i am going to start with medassurant in the office (md) in december (14th). i am very excited to start this chapter of my career and learn medical coding etc... as i stated in a prior post my friend works there and loves it. i plan on getting certified in the future too. maybe at that time i can check out clinical coding solutions.. working from home sounds aswesome to me!!!!! is it possible to work full time with them?????? there is also many other companies in md that do this type of work. one being in baltimore and paying much more than medassurant, plus you get free starbucks each morning.... sounds like my kind of place!!!!! i have to get experience first and get that certification. medassurant is a growing, huge company. i am so excited. only down fall is that they wont count my 8 years of being a lpn at all!!!! bummer...... would have been like $3.00 more per hour.

but there is growth potential to make more $$$$$$$$. just wanted to share my good news and wish all good luck....... take care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Itshamrtym,

Congrats on your new position with Medassurant! It sounds very interesting.

Did they hire you without coding experience, then?

Good luck to you! I hope you enjoy it!

Hello..... thanks..... Yes they do!!!!!!!! They also have nurses that work in the field going to various MD offices ect to scan charts etc. This isn't usally full time. But my job will be with OT when we have big projects coming in. The unit is all locked with badge access due to the work we do there. YOU can do OT any time you want... Say go in @ 3 am on a Saturday!!! cool!!!! YOu have to be there for I believe at least 6 months-1 year first. And you have to be on your game. If you consistently don't make the 95% accurately than you won't be doing OT when they have it. Like I said, I am very excited. It took a bit to get in. And it was a little faster as I have a friend that works there. If I can help you with anything let me know...!!!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, that sounds great! So instead of doing chart review, you will be doing medical coding? I am thinking of taking an intensive CPC course here in Denver at the end of this month. I have no coding experience at all, so I imagine it will be challenging, but it does sound interesting. I would love to get into a position that allows me to work from home. It sounds like CCS offers that. Glenmar seems to be enjoying his position there quite a bit.

I wonder what kind of training Medassurant offers. Do you know?

Good luck to you!

Hi Glenmar,
