RN-BSN or RN-MSN?

Published

Hello :)

I am currently in an ADN program with the aspiration of becoming an NP someday. I know I'll need at least a Masters to get there and that there are direct entry RN-MSN programs out there. However, by skipping from ADN to MSN with no BSN in between, would I be missing out on critical schooling? Is it important to get the BSN if you're already able to go for the MSN?

Thanks for any/all help!

if being an NP is your goal, as long as you are able to take the NP certification test, you will be okay. The BSN material is not essential for you especially since you will be putting on your NP hat. If that is your goal, go for the MSN!

All of the programs for ADN-MSN in my area obtain the BSN during the program. I'm doing the one at USA, and I got my BSN during the first year of the RN-MSN track. I took 5 Bachelor's level courses mixed with 4 Master's level courses and was awarded the BSN at that point. Now I am in the MSN portion. Dec 2013 baby!
