RN with ADN-Certifications to increase chances for a job

Hi guys!

I'm a new grad (Dec 2010) from an ADN program and wasn't working for a hospital when I graduated. I passed my boards and have put out about 80 applications, but still haven't gotten any responses/interviews, which is kind of disheartening. Since all the hospitals in the area are changing to magnet status, its making it even more difficult for new grads with ADNs to find nursing jobs, so I'm going back to finish my Bachelor's degree. I'm wondering if I should receive any other certifications in the mean time to help my chances of landing an RN job (ACLS?).

I got my ACLS after putting out over 100 applications just for something to do because I wasn't ready to go back for my bachelor's yet, and when I went for my first interview (on a telemetry unit) they hired me largely because of that. I think it definitely doesn't hurt, it shows that you're motivated plus if you are planning to work on any sort of cardiac, critical care, or stepdown unit, it definitely has useful information.

It's definitely desirable, because it shows you are doing something during your time of unemployment. Also consider volunteering.

Congratulations on the new job! I think I got hired for my first nursing job on the same day as you ;> I'm ADN too, but with a previous bachelors. Is your hospital encouraging BSN, pay different for BSN, etc.?
