Hello everyone. I just wanted to start the thread for all the new applicants of RCC's Nursing Program for Spring 2014. This thread is to help each other stay current with old and new information about the program. Share your thoughts about the application process, teas V preparation, acceptance, and support group. Let the applications begin!!
Does anyone have advice on RCC vs SBVC RN programs?
Simone_10,
In my experience with applying to SBVC I can tell you this:
1. If you have 80 points, you have a good shot at SBVC 2. In terms of how your points are determined, I can say this about SBVC, "the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing." With that, I caution anyone who applies there to follow back on your points.
It states in their information packet how your points are calculated. If you have a bachelor's, they count your gen ed points based on 3 classes only. When I received a denial letter in the mail, I knew something was wrong and called to inquire my points. The lady explained I had 75 points when I calculated myself 90. In short, she didn't award me the 5 points for my Spanish because she said it wasn't equivalent, and when I read word for word from the info packet how bachelor degree holder's points are calculated, she explained "I wasn't informed/instructed/never did it that way," so she only awarded me 10 points for that section. So, 15 points are unaccounted for at this point. I pulled teeth and called the Language dept. myself at SBVC and my Span 3 from RCC was equivalent for the 5 points, so she gave me those and brought my app to 80. I spoke with the nursing counselor and she agreed as well my gen ed points were miscalculated and urged me to follow back on it. I got in contact with the lady again and she told me she "still needed to bring that to the director's attention, and this is 4 weeks after the fact. She never did ask the director about it. Or give me my 10 points. Instead she told me with the 80 points I was number 11 on their list, so if anyone dropped out or declined from the point system I will be receiving a call. I am deeply concerned for all previous applicants and applicants who held bachelor degrees who received a denial letter, their points were certainly not calculated correctly from experiencing what happened with mine.
What about from a program standpoint? If both options became available, which school has a better program or are they both equal?
Simone_10,
Since I haven't experienced their program, I wouldn't be able to say. But from what I hear, they say the program is really "friendly," and I believe they're big on helping each other out so no one gets left behind. I've heard the counselor say herself that everyone bags on SBVC that graduates can't find a job after the program, but she affirmed that's simply not true. Go to one of the info sessions.
