Richmond, Va ? Which is better Beta Tech or MCI

U.S.A. Virginia

Hey there everyone.

I need a little advice, I am still trying to decide the best course of action as far as schooling is concerned and I was wondering if anyone could tell me which school would be best to receive my schooling from, MCI or Beta Tech (particularly the ones located in Richmond on the South Side)? Please let me know. This is my dream and really want to go to a school that wiill teach me all the tools needed to succeed. Also does anyone have a ballpark figure as to how much it costs to attend one of these schools? Also what website or book would be good to use to brush up on the nursing entrance exam, particularly the math part. I'm 41 and have forgotten alot, and I hope I'm not to old to comprehend this info again, but I know I need a refresher!

Thanks in advance to all that respond. It means alot to me.

On a side note I am impelled to give much love and appreciation to all you nurses (here in Va, and around the world) out there. Why? Because you make patients feel most comfortable during the most uncomfortable situations. And for that, you're priceless!!!

Hope to hear from you soon, chow for now.....

Well it all depends. I know very little about Beta Tech but I do know they are cheaper than MCI. Beta Tech tuition is around $21,000 as of yesterday. MCI tuition as of last September was $25,000 and they go up with each class so I would say the tuition probably is around $27,000 for MCI now.

Both are accredited by the Va Board of Nursing, although MCI looks like it does have better pass rates. Which is very important. I suggest go to talk with an admissions rep at both schools to get a feel for both programs. MCI is too expensive and you will probably have to apply for a private loan in addition to student loans just to cover tuition.

Please post back what you decide, GOOD LUCK!!!!

Specializes in none but hope to have one soon.

Have you thought about one of the community colleges? John Tyler offers a ADN and J. Sargant Reynolds offers both LPN and ADN.

I am going to John Tyler and will probably spend no more than $10,000 total for my ADN and pre-reqs for BSN. John Tyler has a pass rate of 94.8% and Reynolds has a pass rate of 84.6 for the ADN and 100% for the LPN. If you haven't already check out the VA BON website. http://www.dhp.virginia.gov/nursing/

Good luck in whatever you decide!
