My nursing license was revoked by CA BRN due to a 2015 DUI and failure to testing during my probation period. I had to send documents to each state that I had ever held a license with. Alabama BON has sent me a letter wanting to bring charges against me. My license expired there in 1995 twenty five years ago and I only worked there as a Graduate Nurse for 2 months waiting to take my boards In 1985. They want me to go there for a hearing September 10 which I cannot do and we are still on lockdown here. I am just flabbergasted that they are able to do this with a 25 year expired nursing license. I would like to see if anyone has had this happen to them and their outcome. Thank you!

That is such BS. IMO, that sounds like someone looked at those documents and thought “oooohhh, we can trap another person into puking up money to justify our (for a large share of our victims) useless extortion scheme. Of course failing to comprehend that that you’ve been gone for 1/4 century and I’m guessing have ZERO interest in stepping foot in the state of Alabama, at least for work, ever again. For all the babbling that these programs (Nix that, probably some DOH attorney with not enough work to do ) about ‘protecting the public, blah blah blah.....how is chasing a person who is basically nonexistent protecting anyone? I would wager that a letter disputing the need for any charges, addressed to the actual BON might stop this. Especially since, from what you wrote, it sounds like they were notified of this 5 years ago are are just now getting around to seeing it.
Also, who the hell even has records going back that far? Those were the days of paper charting, for cripes sake. I suppose this also begs the question of ‘statute of limitations’ though I am aware that this junk falls under ‘administrative law’ at least when convenient (like when denying due process, right to defend oneself, etc etc.)
In the real world, this would be laughable....besides what are they going to do, force you to do a dumb program to preserve a license you don’t even need/want/ stopped even being interested in a generation ago? But these clowns apparently have nothing better to do.

I am currently under VDAP in Alabama. After being a part of this forum, I am convinced Alabama is one of the strictest nursing boards (if not THE strictest). In monitoring, they maintain very detailed records.

Next time and for all of you who is under the radar of any Nursing Board for whatever reason, tell them that I'm not signing anything. For any cause, the Board will write up some sanctions against you and if ever you'll sign for it, your license can be revoked or suspended right away depending what they write about you. Tell the Board of Nursing that you wanted to go further with them to the Administrative judge where he can decide your professional fate with finality. The Board is not actually the final stage for any punishment and penalty of our Professional License, it's actually the Administrative judge which is a separate branch of the governing body and the Board of Nursing knows who they are. Google Administrative Judge for Professionals like Nursing so you will be guided accordingly. In this scenario, the Board of Nursing will present their case against you in front of the Administrative Judge while you and your hired attorney will also be given the chance of explaining things. The matter can take several trials depending on the case itself. Sometimes, it can be quick. It's like going to a real Trial court where both sides are being heard and the judge will arbitrate, settle , adjudicate or resolve for all parties involved. But remember to tell the Board of Nursing that you are not signing anything but we will go to the Administrative Judge. As much as possible, hire an attorney and you can tell him more about it. DUI is happening anywhere and to anybody especially that causes no harm to someone but to be revoked of professional rights is way way over the roof.

We have trained for, EARNED and possess a skill set that only our peers are able to fully understand. I will never allow anyone to say that I am “just a nurse”, ever again. Nurses are not perfect because they’re PEOPLE, and I will bet my life that 90% of us take that responsibility MORE than seriously. The past 10 months have proven ALL of the above. My advice is this...if you have a problem, address it and make the changes...if you’ve been wrongfully accused, fight it. Honesty and Integrity will win. At the end of the day, if you save a life, that person isn’t asking for your resume or for a dissertation of the past 30 years of your life, they are grateful for our skills....let’s face it...statistically, the people that are judging us, couldn’t do what we do with a tutor and written instructions.....

I was recently told by California Deputy Attorney that there would be a $12,500 fee if I didn’t want my license there revoked bc of a NC reprimand. I haven’t held a license there or worked there as a traveler since 2014. Double punishment. Now, bc it’s on my license, I’m finding it very hard to find a job.
