Review and NCLEX...how far apart?

Published

I am attending a Hurst review next week. My hospital reimburses for 1 review and the NCLEX so I figure why not! we did a Kaplan review at school and I didn't find it very helpful at all. I figure the Hurst can't hurt. Anyway I got my ATT today. My question is should I take the NCLEX immediately after the Hurst review? Should I wait a week or two? I know with our Kaplan review we had like 4 weeks of study to do on our own after the 4 day class. Just curious if HUrst did the same. I want to take it and get it over with so that I don't have to worry about it anymore!

My school also paid for a live Kaplan review back in March, and it was not as helpful as I would have liked for it to be. So, my friend and I attended a live four-day Hurst review that ended on April 3rd. I took NCLEX on May 11th and passed with the minimum of 75 questions.

I allowed five weeks to elapse between the date that I finished the Hurst review and the actual test date for NCLEX because I needed time to thoroughly study the material in the Hurst booklet, answer NCLEX-style questions on a daily basis, and review the rationales for the answers to each question. You might need more or less time, but I didn't want to take any chances.

By the way, my friend also attended a live Kaplan review that was conducted by the school. She also attended a live four-day Hurst review with me. However, she recently failed NCLEX after answering the full complement of 265 questions due to not completely studying the content after these reviews. She also failed to answer enough NCLEX-style questions. She also studied in the presence of her noisy child and permitted too many distractions.

I would give myself a few days for the review session to percolate but that is me. How do you feel about it? Will it all go into your head the first time or do you think you will need to go over it at least one more time? At any rate, good luck.
