No advice, but I hope it goes well for you! I'm sure the refresher course will help a lot. You're probably absolutely fine, but I think the course will help with self-confidence.

I'm curous about medical transcription - how does that pay?

It was very difficult for me to get a job in transcription but eventually I did. I returned to school for a year to obtain a degree in medical transcription but most places want you to work in a hospital first, which I could not because we had no one to care for our son and two younger daughters. I needed to be at home to care for our 3-year-old son. I started around $8 an hour but after much perseverance and getting faster, I'm about $15-17 an hour. I would continue to do this but my neck gets so sore and achy. So, I don't think I can last much longer. I'd rather be up on my feet and have aching legs!

If you've only been out two years I don't think there will be a problem...with the shortage today hospitals will probably jump at the chance to hire you...!

Have things changed that much in PACU and ICU in 2 years? Hmm. I don't think you will have too much trouble picking it back up since you did it for 11 years prior to this. Maybe a seminar including new trends and updates may be all you need....or a critical care seminar like 'Advances in Critical Care" which rolls around every year in my parts. Recent books may help too.

Good luck, but I bet you won't have near the problem you are thinking you may have! :) I think the refresher courses are designed for nurses who have been out of the loop for 10 years or more and you might be bored.
