Does anyone know how beneficial it is to retake classes? I am doing it for a few classes. Basically what happened is 2 years ago I had a stillbirth, during finals week in Dec. I was allowed an extention to take my last 2 finals in a math and psych class but due to depression I just never went. I got a D in one class and a C in the other. Well, I am retaking the psych class, the one I got a D in, and I'm striving for an A. I want to retake the math class since I have to take college algebra next anyway, and want the refresher course.
I hope to one day apply to the RN-BSN program at ASU. If I retake these classes and get A's (hopefully! :) ) how much will the previous two lower grades haunt me? Will it bring down my total GPA? Or will the higher grades be the only ones that count?
Another question, I was previously a business major in another state (this was like 3-4 years ago) and had my transcript sent to GCC when I moved to Az. I did okay, I had a 3.0, but none of these classes matter when it comes to trying to get into a nursing program. So will these classes affect my GPA?
Basically what I'm getting at is, I think if I work hard I can have a really high average in my nursing prereqs, but I'm wondering just how much all those other classes that don't matter, or the two I will retake, will count?
THANKS! Rebecca

I started pre-req's @ PVCC this semester. My understanding is that when you take a class over again, your second try cancells out your first. My bio partner is taking chem for the second time because she got a "D". The second time grade will go on her transcripts.
Did you know, you have to have a 3.8 or higher to get into the nursing program at ASU? Ouch! It's that competitive

When you retake a 100 or 200 level class over again your first grade is wiped out completely ( at ASU anyways) BUT it is my understand that you cannot re-take any class with a "c" or better.
Like you I was a different major before deciding on nursing and have about 45 credits that don't go towards nursing. When applying to ASU's nursing program they only count classes that go towards nursing. it's a list of 17 pre-req courses ( 13 of which you have to have done b4 applying) that they use
calculate your GPA. Hope this helps.....

ASU's nursing program is extremely competitive but I don't think you HAVE to have a 3.8 to get in. Yes it would help but it's not dependent on it.

The rn to bsn is not as hard to get into as the bsn, from what I hear. And I have heard of people with a 3.5 not getting in one semester but someone with a 3.3 getting in another semester. It all depends on what the other apps gpa's are, since it is on a points system. That's for the regular bsn not the rn to bsn.

Hmmm...? Has anyone called to find out about the rn-bsn program and what the standards are?
The other night someone quickly told me that the ASU nursing program wasn't that great. Is this true? I remember reading somewhere that the MCC's had a higher NCLEX pass rate, but I didn't know that ASU wasn't considered good.
I called about the LPN-RN program yesterday and the lady at gateway told me it's a shorter wait to get into the 3rd block of the program. I wonder if that's because people drop out during the 1st and 2nd blocks usually? She also said it's not a lottery system and choosing a list of schools like if you are getting in at the beginning. She said you just go to the college you want to attend and turn in your paperwork. Does anyone know which is the best MCC for nursing? Glendale?

This list the pass rates for all az nursing schools. The cc's are in fact higher than ASU.

From what I can tell the cc's have only been providing stats for the last 3 years and over that lifetime they've had an 86.7% pass rate to ASU's 89.2%.
ASU's stats last year, which I assume you're using for comparison, were lower than the 7 previous years, so there's little statistical significance there. :)
