Retake?

Published

I just got my grade back from Anatomy and Physiology. I needed 900 points to get an A, and I ended with 899.5 points. So needless to say, I'm devastated.

Would you retake for an A, or would you leave it and hope to get into your program with a B? My program only considers the core science courses GPA (a&p 1 and 2, and micro) and your HESI score for entrance and is pretty competitive.

Is re-taking it an option? At my school, you can only retake for Cs or lower. I would apply with the B, and if you get denied, and retaking is an option, I'd do it at that point.

Wow, your instructor didn't go ahead and give you the A? We are only allowed to retake a class for D's or F's. If allowed, I think retaking it would depend on how your grades were in your other classes and where that puts you compared to recent admissions scores into the programs in your area. It may not be necessary.

Talk to your instructor. I don't know what kind of student you are, but hopefully if you have participated in class, good attendance and you have a good relationship with the instructor, the grade will be rounded.

Check and see if retaking the class is an option, and if so do they average the grades, or look at the highest. Also talk with an advisor from the nursing department to see what the say. You might still be competitive if you get 4.0 in the other required classes and a high score on your HESI.

It is fusterating to miss that 4.0 by half a point, the good news is if you can retake the class and if you do you should be able to get that 4.0 the next time.

After emailing and waiting for days to hear back, I rechecked my grade and it turns out the instructor had forgotten to add an extra credit assignment from earlier in the semester, which gave me the boost I needed to get an A. Whew!
